White Oak Canyon Hiking Trail
Shenandoah National Park has about 20-30 different hiking trails. They range from easy to extremely hard. I decided to try a new trail. I usually do Old Rag Trail, which you will see pictures from that later. We went on White Oak Canyon trail. We parked at the sky line drive parking lot between mile marker 42 and 44. We actually passed the parking lot and went to the bottom lot. So make sure you're looking for a lot on the left. You can do this one but then your going up hill the whole way verses down hill at the beginning. There were several smaller water falls and water crossings you get to before you hit the lower and upper falls.
Once we got to the top of the water fall, which actually is the side of the waterfall from a further distance. its a pretty great view of everything. We made our way down further to get up close and personal with the waterfall. We had to climb through moving water and cross the stream several times. So bring a towel or a good pair of hiking boot so that you can dry your shoes off so you can keep climbing. It gets really slick.
To get back up to the top we climb up the side of the water fall. There was a defiant path but it wasn't very hard to get up there. This loop is about 10-12 miles long. We didn't do the whole loop. We went back the way we came. Which as I stated at the beginning we were walking down hill the whole time. Which meant on the way back we had to climb back up. It wasn't to difficult but we did start getting tired. You may have to take a couple of breaks on the way back up. This was a good trail to go see if you only have a couple of hours for a hike.
